Abstract
1,231,729. Resistance transducers. BATTELLE DEVELOPMENT CORP. Oct. 6, 1969 [Oct. 21, 1968], No.48919/69. Heading G1N. A pressure-sensitive resistance transducer is formed from resilient material with a progressively collapsible skeletal structure e.g. latex foam, whose surfaces are coated with a layer of conductive material, the resistance between opposing external faces being decreased in compression and increased in tension. Details of suitable resilient materials and coatings are given. An element of pressure-sensitive resistance material 80, Fig. 10, is fitted with end-plate electrodes 89, using conductive cement 88. Modifications include a solid spring core Figs. 11, 22 (not shown), a bellows housing Fig. 12 (not shown) and a Bourdon tube arrangement for measuring fluid-pressure Fig. 13 (not shown). A transducer covering two load ranges is formed by stacking one resistance element on top of another, the elements having different modulii Fig. 21 (not shown). A transducer unit may include two active resistance elements 135, 136 Fig. 14, and two passive resistance elements 131, 132 for ambient temperature compensation, inter-connected as a bridge network, or four active elements in a bridge network assembled to act differentially to an applied force Figs. 16, 17 (not shown).
