Abstract

123,114. Gregory, M. Nov. 5, 1917. Fatty oils, sulphuretted. A composition resembling rubber is obtained by heating fish, fish scrap, or fish oil with sulphur, and afterwards heating the product under pressure. In treating fish or fish scrap containing 5 per cent, of oil, a portion of the sulphur is added and the mixture is heated to 175‹ C. The temperature is gradually raised to 220‹ C. over a period of 1-2 hours. The plastic mass so obtained is mixed with the rest of the sulphur, lead oxide being added to accelerate the reaction, and is heated at 155‹ C. under a pressure of 20-40 lb. per sq. in. for ¢-1 hour. The product may be used as a rubber .substitute or may be compounded with rubber.
