[Also in Division F1] A fan, e.g. for the ventilation of an A.C. generator for the lighting of a motor vehicle, is made from a disc 10, Fig. 1, of sheet metal, e.g. galvanized iron, by bending the blades 11 laterally out of the plane of the disc to a position in which they are perpendicular to the plane. A series of holes 19 are punched in the disc prior to the bending, to avoid cracking. Countersinks (21, 22), Fig. 4 (not shown), are stamped into the ends of the holes from both sides of the disc to prevent the spread of any cracks formed during the punching of the holes. Strengthening ribs 14, 15 and 16 are pressed into the disc, the ribs 14 being on the opposite side of the disc to the ribs 15, 16. The corners of the blades are chamfered or rounded-off at 17, 18.
