Abstract

[Also in Division A5] Novel thionophosphonic acid esters of the general formula wherein R 2 is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or haloalkyl radical and R 1 is phenyl, halophenyl, or C 1 -C 4 alkylphenyl or is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or haloalkyl radical are obtained by reacting an ester halide of the formula (R 1 )(R 2 O)P(S)Hal, wherein Hal is a halogen atom with 3 - hydroxy - 5 - methyl pyrazole. The reaction is preferably effected in a solvent or diluent and preferably in the presence of an acid binding agent, e.g. an alkali metal alcoholate or carbonate or a tertiary amine and is generally effected at from 30 to 70 C. The products have pesticidal properties.
