Abstract

1,228,985. Hydrocracking. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 11 July, 1968, No. 33113/68. Heading C5E In a hydrocracking process, a petroleum derived feedstock is contacted under hydrocracking conditions with a catalyst comprising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having uniform pore openings of between 6 and 15 Angstrom units and containing a metallic hydrogenation component in the presence of 500 to 30,000 p.p.m. based on the weight of feed of a basic nitrogen compound, this amount of basic nitrogen compound being maintained at a substantially constant level throughout the hydrocracking process, the process conditions including a temperature exceeding 875‹ F. and up to 1000‹ F., a pressure of 200 to 3000 p.s.i.g., a feed rate of 0À5 to 5À0 volumes of feed per volume of catalyst per hour and an exit hydrogen rate of 1000 to 10,000 SCF per barrel of feed, and a high octane naphtha product is recovered. A part of the basic nitrogen may be present naturally; it is preferred to hydrofine the feed to reduce the amount of nitrogen below the desired level then add controlled amounts of ammonia, aniline, methylamine, propylamine, dimethylaniline, diethylnaphthylamine, pyridine, piperidine, quinoline, pyrrolidine, pyrrol, pyridiazines, pyrimidine, pyrazine, triazines, cinnoline, quinazoline, naphthylpyridine, purine, oximes or nitriles. The catalyst may be faujasite, mordenite or a synthetic zeolite baseexchanged with a metal, e.g. magnesium or ammonium or hydrogen ion and impregnated with a compound of Cu, Ni, Co, Mo, Pt or Pd, compounds of platinum group metals being subsequently reduced to elemental state. There may be a preliminary hydrofining over Co or Ni molybdate or tungstate on alumina or silica. Suitable feedstocks include virgin and coker gas oils, cycle oils, heating oils, shale oils, and steam cracked tars.
