Abstract

1,227,427. Fuel-water separator. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 5 April, 1968 [20 Nov., 1967], No. 16600/68. Heading BID. A separator, for removing water from fuel which is being supplied from a storage tank to a burner, comprises a float 12, of polypropylene, which floats on the water-fuel interface and rises to close the upper fuel outlet 13 when sufficient water accumulates. In Fig. 2 a lower valve-controlled outlet for water is supplied, and float 12 falls to prevent fuel being drained off when valve 7 is opened. The housing .3 is made of transparent synthetic material. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates the separator supplied by gravity from a fuel storage tank, and Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates a separator immediately upstream of a gear pump feeding the burner. The separators in Figs. 3, 5 (not shown) have annular, rubber or polyvinyl chloride valve seats, metal strainers (20), and annular baffles (18). The baffle in Fig. 5 has an external rim which has a coalescing effect on incoming water droplets. Fig. 7 (not shown) illustrates a mushroom shaped float, to replace spherical float 12, and an annular guide therefor.
