Abstract

1,226,214. Weighing electrically. WEST LAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. March 5, 1969 [March 21, 1968], No.13695/68. Heading G1N . A system for determining weight and/or centre of gravity of an aircraft being loaded with cargo includes strain-gauges A, B, C, the voltages V 1 , V 2 , V 3 , from which are combined with respective constants K 4 , K 5 , K 6 , each representing the distance from a sensor to a required position of the centre of gravity, so as to yield displacements x, y, along transverse and longitudinal axes respectively, of the actual C of G from that required. These displacements are displayed on an indicator 26 while that, 22, shows the all-up-weight. In addition, a fourth strain gauge D senses the load on a cargo hook which load is indicated at 21 or may be added to that on the A.U.W. indicator 22. The load sensors A, B, C, may be connected to a trip circuit 23 and indicator 24 arranged to be actuated when a given all-up-weight is exceeded, or when a heavy landing is experienced. A switch 25 enables the retention during flight of the take-off all-up-weight. A pendulum may be utilized to compensate the displacements x, y for departures of the aircraft attitude from the horizontal. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates the system of moments to calculate #x, #y. Fig. 3 (not shown) gives an alternative block diagram of the system. It is stated that the system may also be applied to lorries, cars, rail transport and hovercraft. (For Figure see next page)
