Abstract
1,226,023. Sawtooth circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 28 Oct., 1968 [31 Oct., 1967], No. 50938/68. Headings H3P and H3T. [Also in Division H2] A circuit for generating a sawtooth current in a coil 6 and an E.H.T. voltage Vh comprises a transformer 1 the primary of which is repetitively switched across a direct current supply V1 via a switching device 5 and an efficiency diode 7 and including a first control circuit 13 for stabilizing the sawtooth current in dependence on the load on supply Vh and a second control circuit including a transformer 14 the primary of which is in series with the efficiency diode 7 whilst the secondary is connected to the control circuit of the switching device 5 so as to change the slope of the turning- on half cycle of the switching waveform 27 in dependence on load on the supply Vh. The first control circuit 13 may comprise a capacitor and voltage-dependent resistor. As shown, the secondary 16 of transformer 14 is connected in the anode circuit of the line oscillator 22 of a TV receiver, the combined waveform being differentiated at 23 and fed to the grid of pentode 5. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the secondary winding 16 is connected in series with the grid of pentode 5. Fig. 5 (not shown) relates to the characteristics of pentode 5 and shows the effect of different load lines (the load lines having negative resistance because of the effect of diode 7) and the effect of changing the slope of the turning-on half cycle of the waveform at the grid. The circuit also avoids Barkhausen oscillations by operating above the knee of the characteristic. Pentode 5 may be replaced by a transistor.
