Abstract

1,225,977. Ornamenting. DAWES CYCLES Ltd. 27 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 54447/67. Heading B6G. A cycle frame is decorated by applying around the head tube of the frame at least one decorative sleeve. The appearance of a frame built up by brazing the main member of the cycle frame and the head tube into a socketed "T" piece may be simulated. The sleeve may be annular and may be applied by placing it over an end of the head tube or it may be split and applied by springing it around the head tube. The sleeve may be formed of metal which has been plated, anodized or polished, or metallized plastics. In Fig. 2 decorative sleeves 10 formed by pressing a steel blank and welding it into the form of a length of tubing having one end edge lying normal to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve and the opposite end edge inclined to the axis, and formed with decorative piercings 14 and the edge 13 scalloped are applied to opposite ends of head tube 16 of a diamond cycle frame. The head tube has end portions which extend above and below the outer periphery of the frame to receive conventional bearing cups 19, for a steering pin (not shown). The frame is built up by welding together tubular frame members and is painted before the sleeves are applied. The sleeves are retained in position by insertion of the bearing cups 19 and the finish of the tube 16 is visible through the piercings in the sleeves and contrasts with their metallic finish. The front centre face 20 of the head tube 16 is covered by a decorative shield 21 secured in position by pins 22.
