Abstract
1,225,850. Pipe joints. A. I. HELLSTROM. 17 Dec., 1968, No. 59896/68. Heading F2G. A method of interconnecting two or more protective tubes 2 enclosing pipe-lines 1 for water or steam and at the locations of tube bends junctions or branches where the ends of the tubes 2 terminate short of one another, comprises the steps of placing a thin-walled openended shell over the tubes such that the tubes pass through slotted apertutes in the walls of the shell beneath the connecting location with a bottom cover, sealing the tubes in the slotted apertutes in the shell and injecting into the chamber so formed a foam of plastics material of a type that is subject to an increase in volume so as to fill out the cavities of the chamber, and then closing the upper open end of the shell with a perforated top cover to form a casing. As shown, the casing is of glass fibre reinforced plastics or stainless steel and is formed from a sleeve 5, and the top and bottom covers 7, 8 are provided with flanged edges; the cover 8 has apertures therein to facilitate the egress of excess plastics foam. Sealing means 12 having holes for the tubes 2 are secured by a contact adhesive to the inner sides of the sleeve. The spaces between the ends of the tubes 2 are sealed off by netting 15.
