Abstract
1,224,239. Moulding machine. E. BUHRER. 7 Aug., 1968 [16 Aug., 1967], No. 37751/68. Heading B3F. [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for dosing two types of moulding sand into a moulding box 9 comprises two sand silos 1, 2, each being provided with a discharge device 34, and an intermediate container 5 arranged below said discharge devices and provided with a louvre closure mechanism 10. At the beginning of the operative cycle, Fig. 1, the container 5 is moved towards the conveyer belt 3 while the latter supplies sand from the silo 1 to the container 5 via a shoot 6, with the result that a layer of sand is formed in the bottom of the container 5. When this first layer is complete, the container 5 is moved in the reverse direction (Fig. 3) while sand is supplied from silo 2 via conveyer belt 4 to form a second layer on top of the first. A baffle plate 23 and the shoot plate 6, which is now in a vertical position, help to achieve a uniform and loose layer of sand. When both layers are complete, the container 5 is positioned over a filling frame 8 placed on a mould box 9, and the louvre 10 opened. In a modification, both layers of sand in the container 5 are deposited simultaneously. The silos 1 and 2 may be provided with discharge flaps 12 and 13 joined together by an arm 11 pivotable about a shaft 14. The ratio of facing sand to backing sand is varied by appropriately pivoting the arm 11 and the total quantity of sand varied by vertical displacement of the shaft 14. The discharge devices may be shaker troughs 17 oscillated by vibrators 18.
