Abstract

1,224,026. Polysiloxane resin-containing antifoaming agents. DOW CORNING CORP. 18 March, 1968 [14 April, 1967], No. 12882/68. Heading C3T. Foam in aqueous systems is prevented or destroyed by addition of an antifoaming agent comprising (A) 10 parts by weight (p.b.w.) of a mineral oil, an ester of a carboxylic acid and a monohydric alcohol, a C 6-18 alcohol, a C 7-18 carboxylic acid, a polyoxypropylene or polyoxybutylene glycol, a triorganophosphate or a vegetable oil, and (B) 0À1-5À0 p.b.w. of a polysiloxane compatible with (A) and consisting essentially of SiO 2 and R 3 SiO ¢ units in a ratio of 0À6-1À2:1, R being a C 1-6 monovalent hydrocarbon radical. In examples there are used (A) 10 p.b.w. of a mineral oil, dioctyl adipate, dioctyl phthalate, diethyl succinate, ethyl stearate, decyl alcohol, dodecyl alcohol, octadecyl alcohol, stearic acid, lauric acid tributyl phosphate, coconut oil, olive oil or linseed oil, and (B) 0À5 (or 0À1 or 5.0) p.b.w. of siloxanes having units and molar ratios thereof:- (CH 3 ) 3 SiO 1 / 2 and SiO 2 (0À6:1), C 6 H 5 Si(CH 3 ) 2 O 1 / 2 and SiO 2 (1:1), CH 2 =CHSi(CH 3 ) 2 O 1 / 2 and SiO 2 (0À6:1), C 2 H 5 Si(CH 3 ) 2 O 1 / 2 and SiO 2 (0À6:1), and (CH 3 ) 3 SiO 1 / 2 , C 6 H 5 Si(CH 3 ) 2 O 1 / 2 and SiO 2 (0À5:0À25:1).
