Abstract
1,223,293. Protecting photographic colour prints and transparencies. FILMFABRIK WOLFEN VEB. May 14, 1968, No.22816/68. Headings G2C and G2J. Photographic colour prints and transparencies are protected from ultraviolet radiation by applying to one or both sides thereof a layer containing an ultraviolet absorber and as a film-forming binder a composition containing a copolymer of the formula wherein n is greater than 1, R 1 and R 2 are each hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or substituted aryl, halogen or -COOR 3 where R 3 is hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, and an epoxide of the formula: - wherein X is a trivalent aliphatic aliphaticaromatic, aromatic or heterocyclic radical and R 1 <SP>1</SP>, R 2 <SP>1</SP>, and R<SP>1</SP> 3 are each hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or epoxypropoxy at least one being epoxypropoxy. The layer may be applied as a coating to the processed print or transparency bearing the colour image, or a separate transparent support may be coated with the U.V.-absorbing composition and used as a screen to protect the print or transparency. A matting agent such as finely-divided silica or aluminium stearate may be added to the composition to reduce the glossiness of the coated layer.
