Abstract
1,222,246. Electric heating of pipes. TRANS CONTINENTAL ELECTRONICS CORP. 6 March, 1968, No. 10855/68. Heading H5H. A system of electrically heated, heat insulated fluid flow pipes consists of a plurality of prefabricated heat insulated pipe sections 15 each of which comprises a pipe 18 embedded in heat insulation 17 in easing 16, with ends 18<SP>1</SP> projecting beyond the ends of the casing 16, adjacent pipe sections 15 being joined together by joining the pipes 18 at 24, and by filling a split sleeve 25 placed on the ends of containers 16 with heat insulation 28. The heat insulation 28 may be foamed polyurethane inserted through nipples 27 in sleeve 25 or may be prefabricated, as in Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), and split longitudinally so that it may surround joint 24 before being secured by sleeve 25. Each pipe 18 carries a heater wire 19 or tape which is electrically connected to a terminal connector block 21 mounted on the end 18<SP>1</SP> of the pipe. Adjacent heater elements are interconnected by jumpers between adjacent terminal connectors. Each section 15 may have a double layer of heat insulation, Figs. 10, 11 (not shown). The pipe joints 24 may be as shown, or flange couplings, screw couplings or welded joints.
