Abstract
1,222,170. Injection moulding. J. G. ROSSLEE. 31 Dec., 1968 [2 Jan., 1968], No. 61882/68. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B6] Apparatus for forming a printing slug of synthetic plastics material comprises a die block 18, Fig. 2, having a mould cavity 20, an injection duct 28, and a locating face 22 for a composing stick 26 on which are mounted the desired matrices for the line of type on the slug In use, the composing stick 26 is slidably located and clamped between two shoulders 24 of the die block, synthetic plastics material is injected through duct 28, and cooling fluid through ducts 44. When the plastics material has cooled, the clamp is released, and the composing stick is displaced by sprung pins 38; the printing slug 10 comprising a flat plate with raised characters along one elongated edge, is ejected by blades 34 mounted on plates 32 and being guided by pins 42 co-operating with bores in the die block 18. The die block may, in an alternative embodiment, be in two halves, in which case no ejector is necessary.
