Abstract

122,184. Dayton Engineering Laboratories Co., (Assignees of Hunt, J. H.). Jan. 2,1918, [Convention date]. Interrupters, mechanical.-Ignition is prevented on the accidental reversal of the engine by the employment, in addition to the main interrupters 65, 66, of an interrupter 67 having a resistance 84 in circuit. During normal running, the auxiliary interrupter opens prior to the opening of the main interrupters which register with the engagement of the distributor arm with its fixed contacts. On reversal, however, the main interrupters open first, and on account of the resistance 84 the current across the contacts 72, 75 is so small that an impulse of sparking strength is not produced. The interrupter contacts are supported on a bracket which may be rotated for the purpose of causing the main interrupter contacts to break simultaneously. Current is introduced by the spring which, secured to the casing at one end, encircles the pivot of the lever, and bears against it in the neighbourhood of the contacts, a cushion to prevent chattering being interposed. The other ignition and engine arrangements are identical with those deseribed in Specifications 121,739 and 122,185.
