A foot and/or toe protecting device for insertion into an article of footwear consists of a cupped member 3 in the form of a toe-cap and a sole member 1 which is permanently fixed to the toe cap and which may have a soft cover 2, e.g. of foam material. The toe cap 3 and sole 1 may be joined by rivets or welding or may be integral (not shown) and may be formed of metal or plastics material, e.g. high impact polystyrene or polypropylene.
