A process wherein crystals are separated from a suspension in a column filter under the effect of pulsating pressure surges, and wherein the crystal cake formed is passed to an adiabatic reflux zone to be washed by countercurrent contact with pure crystal melt and the washed crystals pass to a melting zone wherein a portion of the melt is run off, the remainder being used as washing liquid, is characterized in that the intensity of the pressure surges is measured in the liquid above the filtration zone and the measurements obtained are used to regulate the quantity of mother liquor run off from this zone. The #P value may be that between peaks or between the average pressure and the peaks. Variations of temperature and of the crystal solids content in the suspension may be compensated for by this process.
