Abstract
1,220,253. Climbing jacks. BYGGFORBATTRING A.B. 25 April, 1968 [25 April, 1967], No. 19626/68. Heading B8J. A device for controlling the amount of lift of one step of a climbing jack comprises a chain 9 anchored at 14 to a climbing rod 1 passing over a sprocket 16 and its free end being wound in a trough 17. The climbing jack comprises upper and lower gripper heads 2, 3, lift being applied to the former by a pair of hydraulic (or other) jacks 5 each with a cylinder 5<SP>1</SP> and a piston 4. A locking bar 7 is pivoted to the upper head 2 at 12, passes through a large slot 6<SP>1</SP> in a locking head 6 and has a tailpiece 27 which, in the normal position of the parts as shown, engages within a link of the chain 9. To lift a load (not shown) attached to head 2 by a precise amount " A " fluid pressure is admitted to the cylinders 5<SP>1</SP>. Since both heads 2, 3 are locked to the rod 1 against downward movement the head 2 is raised taking with it the bar 7 and lifting the tailpiece 27 clear of the chain 9. Bar 7 is then moved to the right by a spring-loaded ball 13. On the retraction stroke head 3 is lifted by return springs (not shown) and chain is drawn from the trough 17 past a spring-loaded latch 10. The tailpiece 27 enters the next gap in the chain 9 and the starting portion is resumed. Adjustment of the lifting stroke is by holes 18, 18<SP>1</SP> providing, for example, for a step of three lines length.
