Abstract
1,220,157. V.T.O.L. aircraft. NORDAVIATION SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. 18 June, 1968 [19 June, 1967], No. 29068/68. Headings B7G and B7W. An aircraft has two propulsion units 19, 20 mounted on tilting wings 21, 22 which are interlinked rigidly and tilt simultaneously about the pitch axis YY<SP>1</SP>, and hinged flaps in the discharge stream of each unit so arranged that the units are tilted by movement of the flaps. The flying controls for climbing and diving are connected to the flaps (Fig. 2, not shown), the linkage being arranged so that tilting of the units consequent to the movement of the flaps returns the flaps to the zero incidence position relative to the discharge stream. Differential action of the flaps 23, 24 causes them to differentially deflect the discharge streams, giving rise to the forces F6, F7 which act as a couple to turn the aircraft about the roll axis XX<SP>1</SP>; the angle of incidence α<SP>1</SP> of the wing and propeller combinations remains unchanged by the differential action on the flaps 23, 24.
