Abstract

1,220,048. Carbazolization of anthrimides. VYZKUMNY USTAV ORGANICKYCH SYNTEZ. 6 Oct., 1969 [14 Oct., 1968], No. 48954/69. Heading C4P. A method for carbazolization of anthrimides comprises heating an anthrimide with titanium tetrachloride in presence of a reaction initiator capable of thermally decomposing to yield free radicals. The initiator is used in an amount of from 0À5 to 20% by weight of the anthrimide and initiators specified include organic peroxides, e.g. di-tert-butyl peroxide, methylcyclohexanone peroxide, and thermally decomposable azo compounds, e.g. 2,2<SP>1</SP>-azo-bisisobutyronitrile. The reaction preferably takes place at 50-80‹ C. in presence of an organic solvent.
