Abstract
1,219,770. Variable attenuators. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 29 April, 1968 [26 May, 1967], No. 24633/67. Heading H3T. Variable attenuator circuit, e.g. for an a.g.c. circuit, comprises a pi-network including pin diodes 1, 2 and 3, supplied with a control voltage from terminal HT which can be varied to differentially vary the impedance of diode 1 relative the impedance of diodes 2 and 3. A small negative bias voltage is applied to terminal 4 to ensure that all the diodes are not cut off at the same time when the control voltage changes through earth potential, and the diode 8 equalizes the loading on the control line between the state where only the single series diode is conducting and the state where the two shunt diodes are conducting. Chokers 5,9 and 11 isolate the control circuit from the A.C. signal.
