Abstract

1,219,754. Silicone rubbers. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 24 May, 1968 [8 June, 1967], No. 26589/67. Heading C3T. A room-temperature vulcanizing (RTV) composition curing on exposure to moisture comprises (1) a polysiloxane of viscosity at least 200 cS/25‹ C. comprising (a) a polydiorganosiloxane having terminal units -SiR a (OR<SP>1</SP>) 3-a and (b) a polydiorganosiloxane having terminal units -SiR a (OR<SP>1</SP>) 3-a and -SiR<SP>11</SP> 3 , wherein a is 0 or 1, R and R<SP>11</SP> are monovalent hydrocarbon, halohydrocarbon or cyanoalkyl groups, R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1-6 alkyl group and no more than 40% of the end units in (a) plus (b) are -SiR<SP>11</SP> 3 units, and (2) a curing catalyst for (1). The polysiloxane mixture (1) preferably has viscosity 2000-20,000 cS/25‹ C., and conventional organic radicals therefor are listed. The end units may be introduced by reaction of the appropriate silanol-terminated polysiloxanes with an alkoxysilane. Preferred catalysts (2) are Ti chelates, but other conventional metal carboxylates and amine compounds are listed as suitable. In examples, polydimethylsiloxane mixtures having methyldimethoxysiloxane and trimethylsiloxane end units are mixed with a fume silica of 200 m.<SP>2</SP>/g., a low molecular weight silanol-terminated polydimethylsiloxane, TiO 2 , methyl trimethoxysilane and diisopropoxytitanium diacetoacetonate or diethylacetoacetate, to give RTV compositions.
