Abstract

1,219,595. Drinking straws. UNION CARBIDE CORP. Nov. 1,1968. No. 51790/68. Heading C6E. A drinking tube of thermoplastic material (specified) has a flexible zone 16, Fig.4, composed of circumferential grooves with short and long sides 20 and 22, respectively, and the tube is stored in a contracted condition with the grooves making reentrant and overlapping folds Fig. 5 (not shown). The grooves may be produced by mounting the tube on an appropriately shaped mandrel and rolling the tube and mandrel upon a complementary plate.
