Abstract

1,218,638. Blasting. D. J. PLASTER. 23 April, 1969 [25 April, 1968], No. 19663/68. Heading B3D. Blast-cleaning apparatus of the type in which abrasive material is discharged centrifugally from a vaned wheel rotating at high speed and wherein the vaned wheel is fed with abrasive through a control cage at its centre and is enclosed within a housing with a blast opening having liner or deflector plates at opposite ends thereof, is characterized in that thermocouples are attached to such plates so that offcentre discharge from the wheel, due to wear or incorrect setting of the control cage, will be shown by a difference in the temperatures indicated by the thermo-couples. Thermo-couples 24 are attached to end liners 23 and connected to indicators 25 mounted on top of the treatment chamber 8 or mounted on a control panel at a remote position, the indicators actuating as visual or other warning device whenever angular adjustment of the control cage (16), Fig. 2 (not shown), becomes necessary to correct the orientation of the blast stream. Preferably such adjustment is made automatically by means responsive to any temperature differential at the two thermo-couples 24, e.g. (i) by a small electric motor geared to the outer end of the cage (16), (ii) by a linear induction motor or (iii) by admission of fluid pressure to a ram.
