Abstract
1,217,688. Pulse modulation circuits; transistor pulse oscillators. WEIR ELECTRONICS Ltd. 13 March, 1968 [16 June, 1967], No. 27898/67. Headings H3T and H4L. [Also in Division G4] In a voltage-to-frequency converter a constant current i which is dependent upon the input voltage V charges a capacitor C through a resistance R, the value of resistance R being chosen to reduce non-linearity at the higher input voltages. As the the capacitor is changed the emitter potential of transistor TR1 rises linearly with time until a reference voltage E is reached and transistors TR1, TR2 conduct. This causes transistor TR3 to conduct and discharge capacitor C and the cycle is repeated. The output pulses may be gated and counted over predetermined time intervals, Fig. 3. C1 is a converter with a variable input voltage V1 as described above whose output is gated at G by pulses from a circuit C2, similar to C1 but controlled by a predetermined input V2, the circuits C1, C2 being connected to the same reference potential E so that any variations affect both circuits in the same way to minimize errors.
