Abstract

121,748. Walker, G. E., and Walker, S. H. Dec. 9, 1916. Hydrocarbons, distilling; progressive evaporators.-Apparatus for the fractional distillation of crude benzol, oils, &c., consists of two or more still A<1>, A<2>, A<3>, which are arranged at different levels so that the liquid flows through them in succession by gravity, and which are heated to successively higher temperatures, each still comprising a multitubular boiler D of the construction illustrated surmounted by a fractionating column E. The still A<3> is heated by steam &c. and the stills A<2>, A<1> are heated either by steam or by vapours coming from the adjacent stills of higher temperature by pipes F. The crude liquid is preheated in a supply tank A by vapours from the still A<1>. The distillates are condensed in coils G, G<1>. The stills A<1>, A<2>, A<3> may also be heated by steam coils b in the liquor chambers above and below the heaters D. The steam used for heating purposes may flow through the stills A<3>, A<2>, A<1> in succession.
