Abstract
1,216,460. Protective arrangement; control systems for X-ray apparatus. LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc. 9 May, 1969 [16 July, 1968], No. 23861/69. Headings H2H and H2K. An X-ray equipment has means which continuously represent the instantaneous heat content of the X-ray tube 1. A transformer 30 has its primary winding 32 connected for energization in accordance with the voltage applied to the tube. A tapping 35 on the secondary winding of this transformer is coupled to and adjusted with the movable contact 29 of a rheostat 28 which, in controlling the heater current of the tube, controls the anode current. Thus the output from the winding 33 is dependent on the power supplied to the tube 1 and causes a motor 38 to drive a shaft 46 accordingly. A further motor 52 continuously drives a shaft 60 with the opposite direction of rotation, a slip clutch 50 being provided between the shafts. The shaft 46 carries a pointer 48 of a meter calibrated to indicate the number of heat units which can be generated in the X-ray tube before it is overloaded. When the pointer reaches the end of its travel it opens a switch (not shown) to de-energize a relay 78 which opens its contacts 82, 80 to terminate operation of the equipment. Alternatively, the pointer 48 may be replaced by the movable contact of a potentiometer controlling the energization of a separate member, Fig. 4 (not shown). -
