Abstract

1,216,312. Carbamates; thiocarbamates. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 26 June, 1968 [23 Aug., 1967], No. 38759/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions A5-A6] N-substituted carbamic and thiocarbamic acid esters of the formula wherein R represents an aryl group or a substituted methyleneimino group, X represents oxygen or sulphur, and # represents an optionally substituted hydroxy or amino group, provided that, when R represents aryl and X represents oxygen, then # represents an optionally substituted hydroxy group, are prepared (a) by reacting phosgene with a compound of the formula RXH and reacting the product with a compound of the formula H 2 N-#; or (b) (where # represents dialkylamino) by reacting phosgene with R<SP>1</SP> 2 N-NH 2 to produce the compound R1 2 N-NCO and combining the latter with RXH; or (c) by reacting together and H 2 N-#. In prepared examples, when X represents oxygen, R represents either (a) α- naphthyl; or (b) a substituted methyleneimino group of the formula R<SP>11</SP>-C(CH 3 ) =N-, wherein R<SP>11</SP> represents tert-butyl, phenyl, methylthio, or n-propylthio; or (c) a camphor oximino radical. When X represents sulphur, R represents 2-isopropylphenyl. Biocidal compositions, useful particularly as insecticides, comprise the compounds of the invention together with an appropriate carrier and/or surfactant.
