Abstract
1,216,287. Colour television tubes. SONY CORP. 9 Oct., 1969 [9 Oct., 1968], No. 49700/69. Heading H1D. In a colour television tube employing magnetic deflection and a shadow mask or a parallax grid, mis-registration of the beam due to thermal expansion of the mask or grid is corrected by a corresponding movement of the centre of deflection of the beam, which is achieved by shunting the magnetic deflection means with a material whose permeability varies with temperature. In one arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), a compensating ring is arranged on the neck of the tube on the gun side of the magnetic yoke so that as the temperature of the mask or grid rises, that of the compensating ring also rises. The ring comprises 30% Ni 70% Fe and has a permeability that decreases as the temperature increases, such decrease having the effect of moving the deflection centre towards the gun end of the tube. The compensating ring may be in the form of a clamp adapted to clamp the deflection yoke to the tube and may be in one or two parts, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). The compensating ring may be disposed inside the tube, and when the tube uses coplanar beams and electrostatic convergence plates, the ring may be arranged round the convergence plates (Fig. 8, not shown), or a pair of the convergence plates may be made of the magnetic material.
