Abstract

1,216,272. Ni exchanged zeolite. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 5 Feb., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968], No. 9334/68. Addition to 1,113,193. Heading C1A. [Also in Division C5] An X-type molecular sieve zeolite is impregnated with a nickel salt in an ionic solution of sufficient strength to ensure substantially complete ion exchange with the zeolite, the impregnated zeolite washed with an undissociated or weakly dissociated solvent for the nickel salt (e.g. water) to remove excess nickel salt, and the washed product calcined in an inert gas (e.g. N 2 ) at 200-800‹ C. The impregnation and washing may be repeated before the calcination. Suitable nickel salts are the chloride, sulphate and nitrate, and the complex formed by dissolving nickel formate in ammonia. The products are dimerization catalysts (see Division C5).
