Abstract

1,215,934. Radio navigation. MARCONI CO. Ltd. 20 March, 1968 [15 June, 1967], No. 27584/67. Heading H4D. [Also in Division G1] Relates to radio navigation receivers in which the amplitudes of two modulation frequencies (e.g. 90 c/s., 150 c/s.) on a common carrier frequency are compared to afford an indication of deviation from a course line. According to the invention the modulation frequencies are alternately heterodyned to the same resultant frequency and the resultant frequency is fed alternately and synchronously to rectifying means to give two output signals respectively proportional to the amplitudes of the two modulation frequencies. In one embodiment a local master oscillator 3 of frequency 180 c/s. is phaselocked to the 90 c/s. tone and logic circuit dividers 2, 4, 5 produce 90 e/s., 60 c/s., 7.5 c/s. outputs respectively, the 7.5 c/s. outputs being fed to AND gates 6, 7, 9, 10 to effect the requisite change-over switching; D1 and F are the usual course-deviation indicator and flag alarm respectively. Narrow-band filter 8 which follows balanced mixer M is preferably a "three-shift register" digital filter fed with a " clocking " 90 c/s. signal from divider 2 to afford a 2 c/s. bandwidth centred accurately on 30 c/s.: and any received 90 c/s. tone shift will be followed by the filter.
