Compounds of formula wherein each R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or a C 1-6 alkyl group, R is a C 1-3 alkylene group and n is 0 or 1, are prepared by reaction of a lactone of formula with hydroxylamine to give a compound of formula and reaction of this with phosgene.
