Abstract

121,343. Gaudart, E. E. R. Dec. 12, 1917. Hulling, husking, and decorticating.-Apparatus for husking earth nuts, grains, fruits, &c. comprises a fixed vertical drum and an inner rotary member, both of ellipsoidal form, the drum having a smooth inner surface pierced with horizontal slots of adjustable width, and the inner rotary member having a helical rib on its periphery. The nuts &c. are husked by being repeatedly projected against the drum, the husks passing through the horizontal slots, and the kernels passing out at the bottom of the apparatus. The drum a consists of a number of annular parts adjustably connected together by lugs band packing- pieces c, so as to have slots d between them. The drum is provided with a hopper j. The inner member g carrying the helical rib is solid, or consists of a casing of perforated metal or metal lattice-work. It is rotated at about 200 or 300 revolutions per minute. Mounted on the shaft e of the member q is a plate h which closes the drum at the base, except for an annular space just wide enough for the kernels to pass through. The shaft c is adjustable vertically by means of a lever i. Dust &c. is discharged at the top by the current of air set up, or through the interior of the inner member g. Unhusked nuts are returned towards the top by the helical rib.
