A varginal suppository comprises at least one surfaceactive fatty compound as defined, an effervescent compound or couple, at least one pharmaceutically active compound and optionally at least one other pharmaceutical excipient. The pharmaceutically active ingredients are chosen from lysozyme or a non- toxic salt thereof, a nitroimidazole compound, an antibiotic such as a tetracycline compound or chloramphenicol, a penicillin or a steroid such as oestrogen.
