1212542 Electric oven SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO Ltd 15 May 1968 [21 Feb 1967] 8080/67 Headings F4W W44J W18A1A1 W18A1C2 and W8 A cooking stove which may be used as an oven when its transparent door is in a closed or almost closed position, or as a grill when the door is fully open has a pair of electric heating elements which are selectively energizable to provide radiant heat for grilling and convected heat when used as an oven, and has a control circuit which includes a thermostat for cutting off the supply to the selected element when with the door closed or partly closed, the temperature of the oven rises sufficiently to cause the temperature of the external surface of the door to become too hot. For low temperature baking control knob 40 is set between the low and off positions to open contact C1a permanently and close contacts S3 permamently and the door 25 is closed to open contacts S2 permanently so that heating elements El and E2 are connected in series with a thermostat Sl between line and neutral 1 and 2. The thermostat S1 cuts off the current supply should the temperature in the oven rise sufficiently to cause excessive temperature of door 25. For grilling, knob 40 is set to its high position, closing contacts C1a permanently or between the high and low settings in which position contacts C1a cycle on and off under the control of a bimetallic heater R1. In this position of knob 40 contacts S3 are permanently open. The door 25 is open for grilling so that its contacts S2 are closed to shunt thermostat Sl. Thus only heating element El is energized, it being under the control of cycling contacts C1a. For spit roasting the door 25 may be maintained partly closed by a spring detent device 45, 46, the door contacts S2 being held closed in this position. Heating element El is mounted at the top of the oven for radiant heating and heating element E2 is mounted at the bottom and/or around the sides of the oven to provide convective heating. The door comprises two panels of boro-silicate glass. Should the door be inadvertently closed whilst the grilling heater El is selected, contacts S2 controlled by the door will be opened so that the thermostat S1 will over-ride cycling contacts C1a and prevent overheating.
