Abstract

1,212,530. Wax dispersions. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 15 Dec., 1967 [15 Dec., 1966], No 57111/67. Heading B1V. [Also in Division C3] Wax dispersions are prepared by introducing with agitation ,20 to 60 parts by weight of a mixture heated to 90 to 120‹C and comprising (a) 40 to 50 parts of oxidised polyethylene wax of molecular weight 1000 to 6000 and acid number 10 to 50 or an oxidised paraffinic Fischer-Tropsch wax of molecular weight 500 to 1500 and acid number 10 to 60, up to 40 per cent of which waxes may be replaced by a hydrocarbon wax of molecular weight 500 to 5000, (b) 6 to 8 parts of a C 16-36 fatty or wax acid, (C) 30 to 35 parts of an aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon boiling at 100 to 260‹C and (d) 15 to 18 parts of a C 3-10 aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohol; into 40 to 80 parts of a C 2-10 glycol or monoether thereof to which has been added ¢ to 1¢ equivalents of the fatty or wax acid, (c) 30 to 35 parts of an aliphatic or a C 10-20 fatty amine containing 2 to 8 ethoxyl groups, or a C 2-10 amino alcohol. The acid may be stearic, arachic, benhenic or montanic. The hydrocarbon may be toluene, xylene, mineral spirits or Fischer Tropsch aliphatic hydrocarbons. The alcohol may be butanol, isobutanol, iso-amyl alcohol, n-hexanol, 2-ethylhexanol or cyclohexanol. The glycol may be ethylene, propylene, butylene, diethylene or dipropylene glycol, or methyl, ethyl, propyl or butyl ethers thereof. The amino compound may be ethanolamine, 2-amino-2-methyl propanol, N, N-diethylamino ethanol or a condensate of ethylene oxide with stearylamino or oleylamine. The dispersions may be added to inks and paints to improve abrasion resistance.
