A rotary drum washing machine comprises an oscillatably mounted tub 12 of which at least the perimeter walls are of strong hard ceramic material. As shown, the tub and drum assembly is mounted on resilient legs 13 in a housing. Tub 12 is made of water-glass bound acid cement and comprises a rear part 17 secured fluid-tightly by screw clamps 18 to the integral front and perimeter walls 16, 15. Drum 32 is driven by motor 24 and has a loading opening closed by a fluid-tight sealing window 35. The solution in tubs 12 is heated by heating bars 45.
