Headings H2F and H2J] A single-phase/polyphase converter for the generation of an output voltage composed of complete half-cycles is controlled by a triggering circuit A supplied with polyphase signals from a ring counter B, a logic circuit supplied from the single-phase supply and from the outputs of the ring counter being provided to delay triggering of the conveter until the waveform of the single phase supply passes through zero. This ensures that the output b, Fig 2, contains only complete half cycles of the single phase supply. Fig. 1 (not shown) relates to six pairs of thyristors connected across a centre tapped secondary of a single phase transformer, the thyristors feeding the split stator windings of a three-phase synchronous motor. The thyristors are triggered by circuits 1g-6g controlled by NOR gate 21-26<SP>1</SP> each having three inputs respectively supplied with antiphase square waves derived at 20 from the single-phase supply, with the output of a ring counter B driven by a pulse generator 10 at a frequency determined by input voltage Uf and by the output of an inhibiting circuit C consisting of a monostable circuit 30 triggered by the single phase supply, NOR gates 11-16 and bi-stable multivibrators 27-29. The inhibiting circuit C prevents periodic short circuits caused by the inductive coupling of the split stator windings when two thyristors are simultaneously triggered. This enables the output frequency to be raised to 80-90% of the single-phase frequency.
