Abstract

1,211,594. Stacking machine; endless conveyers; delivering sheets. KRAFTCO CORP. 23 Feb., 1968 [6 March, 1967], No. 8836/68. Headings B8A, B8C and B8R. Equally spaced wrapped cheese slices 12 held by a vacuum on a continuous and height-adjustable conveyer 26, are fed individually into successive pairs of radial slots 38 of a wheel 16 continuously rotating clockwise as shown and mechanically connected to the conveyer 26. Radially inwards of the slots 38 are pockets 36, each communicating with a number of the slots, but a fixed arcuate shelf 40 prevents the articles 12 falling into a pocket 36 until they are carried past the vertical position. The slots are defined by plates 82, portions 88 of which protrude into the pockets 36 to keep the articles apart at their radially outer portions. The pockets 36 are defined by plates 68, each of which supports a stack of articles during downward movement. Each pocket has an associated pusher 103 or 114 and each pair of pushers are moved simultaneously by rack-and-pinion means 102, 104, 110, operated by a fixed cam 92 through a follower 118 attached to the rack 110 of the pusher 114. The stacks are swept on to conveyers 18 on opposite sides of the wheel. The conveyers each comprise guide rails 139, and flights 140 on a chain 136. A pivoted finger 139a, yieldable to permit passage of the flights, acts as a platform to receive temporarily the ejected stacks. An endless conveyer (not shown) above each conveyer 18 may press the stacks to cause adhesion between the wrapped cheese slices, these partly being earlier coated with an oil.
