[Also in Division F3] A composite armour panel having a free edge comprises a ceramic face-plate 10 adhered to a metal backing plate 12, wherein the backing plate has an edge portion 14 disposed at the free edge to form a lip enclosing the adjacent edge 16 of the ceramic plate. The backing plate may be an aluminium alloy, the ceramic plate may be of high temperature fabricated polycrystalline alumina, silicon carbide or boron carbide, and the adhesive may be an epoxy resin.
