Abstract
1,211,295. Sampling gases for analysis. H. MAIHAK A.G. Feb.26, 1968 [March 2, 1967], No.9185/68. Heading G1B. A device for sampling exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine comprises an exhaust gas extraction tube 3 which is insertable into the exhaust pipe 1 of a vehicle the tube 3 being carried by a support pipe 2 which is pushed over the end of the pipe 1, a fresh air inlet tube 5 also being provided its open intake end being clear of and opening away from the end of the exhaust pipe 1. Exhaust gas enters the tube 3 through holes 4 and the gases pass through a filter 6 before leaving by way of a connection 7 leading to an analyser which is of the type employing catalytic combustion of the carbon monoxide in the exhaust gas on a heated filament. The device ensures a constant ratio of exhaust gas to fresh air in the gases fed to the analyser, and a catalyst 8 may be disposed in the inlet of the tube 5 to oxidize any carbon monoxide which may enter this tube and effect the analyser reading.
