Abstract

A reversible transmission system of the rack and pinion type comprises two toothed gears A, B in meshing engagement, the axes of the gears being mutually perpendicular and not converging, wherein each toothed gear is constituted by an assembly of a plurality of pinions 1, 2, 3 of similar formation, each pinion being displaced about the common axis by half the tooth pitch relatively to an adjacent pinion. The shape of the flanks 8 of the pinion teeth on one gear are conjugates of the faces 9 perpendicular to the flanks of the teeth of the pinion of the other gear. Axial movement of one gear produces rotary movement of the other and vice versa.
