Abstract

1,210,751. Cleaning tanks. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 3 Feb., 1969 [23 Feb., 1968], No. 8948/68. Heading A4F. [Also in Divisions B7 and E1] An apparatus for attaching to a submerged surface comprises a chamber 1 having an open side 12, a pressure reducing device capable of maintaining a reduced pressure inside the chamber relative to the pressure outside the chamber, a series of corrugations 26 in the edge of the chamber which bounds the open side, and which edges comes into close proximity with the submerged surface. The apparatus may be used for cleaning large submerged surfaces. In the embodiment shown it is described as a manoeuvrable apparatus having a steering wheel 4 and cleaning brushes 25a, 25b, 25c wherein the pressure reducing device is a propeller and a pump.
