Abstract

1,210,046. Doppler radar. NIPPON ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 2 July, 1969 [2 July, 1968], No. 33385/69. Heading H4D. Specification describes a C.W. Doppler radar comprising a biased Gunn-effect element 22 in a resonant cavity 21 and acting as (1) an r.f. transmitter, (2) a detector/mixer for mixing the transmitted signal f 0 with the doppler frequency shifted echo signal f<SP>1</SP> and producing the doppler beat signal (f 0 -f<SP>1</SP>) therefrom and (3) by virtue of its negative resistance characteristic, as an amplifier of said beat signal. The beat signal is fed to a speed indicator 6, via a microwave filter 25 which stops microwave signals passing to the biasing means 23. An a.f. choke 26 stops the beat signal from passing to said biasing means. In a second embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown), the beat signal is fed to indicator 6 via a transformer and any high frequency oscillations produced by the negative resistance of the Gunn-effect element are by-passed to earth from the biasing means by a capacitor shunt.
