Abstract

1,209,981. Drying motor vehicles. G. WEIGELE and J. SULZBERGER. 30 May, 1968 [31 May, 1967; 2 Dec., 1967], No. 26034/68. Heading F4G. Washed motor vehicles are at least partially dried by wiping them with sheets of absorbent material which are moved over the vehicles, the sheets of absorbent material being dried, e.g. by suction, after wiping. The vehicles may also be moved during drying. The vehicles may be subjected to air drying before or after the wiping treatment. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the car is moved through oppositely moving absorbent sheets 8. The sheets 8 are split at the bottoms thereof. The car sides are dried by absorbent sheets 24 on spring-loaded resilient carriers pivoted about 26. The car is air-dried at 27. The sheets 8 are dried by being conveyed against suction nozzle 22. In Figs. 4-6 (not shown), the absorbent sheets (8f) may be gathered to form pleats so that they also dry the sides. To ensure that the sheets engage the lower regions of the car sides blowing or magnetic means may be provided. The sheets may be sprayed with magnetic material or may have small magnets attached thereto.
