Abstract

120,979. Harding, H. L. Nov. 28, 1917. Tread bands. - A flexible metal band 1 vulcanized to the tread of a solid rubber tyre 7 is formed on its inner periphery 3 with undercut grooves 2 and perforations which are filled with rubber serving to key the band to the tyre. The tyre may be reinforced with a layer 8 of heavy cloth, and to increase the adhesion of the band, its inner surface may be roughened and coated with an alloy of copper, zinc, and antimony. For the same purpose, the pressure on the mould is gradually increased during cooling after the vulcanization is completed.
