Abstract

1,209,676. Amine salts of alkylbenzene sulphonic acids. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 22 Oct., 1968 [20 Nov., 1967], No. 50137/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C5] The invention comprises salts of aliphatic amines with alkylbenzene sulphonic acids which have been purified to reduce their sulphuric acid content. The salts may be prepared by mixing the sulphonic acid with the melted amine at 40-50‹ C. A small proportion of polyethylene glycol triricinoleate or of polyethylene glycol polypropylene glycol copolymer may then be added, to restrain emulsification. The specified amines include those of the formulµ RNH 2 , R-NH-(CH 2 ) 3 -NH 2 and R-NH-(CH 2 ) 3 - NH-(CH 2 ) 3 -NH 2 , in which R denotes a C 16 -C 18 radical. An example is given. The products are useful as additives for turbine oils and hydraulic oils (see Division C5).
