Abstract

1,209,148. Jib cranes; winding apparatus. B & S HYDRAULICS Ltd. 13 Dec., 1967 [29 Dec., 1966; 26 April, 1967], Nos. 58179/66 and 19165/67. Heading B8B. [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] A motor-driven vehicle comprises a pivoted boom 5, a winch driving a cable 11 for supporting a load, e.g. a pipe 16, two hydraulic motors 9, 10 respectively for driving the winch and for moving the boom about its pivot, and hydraulic circuit means including pump means 4, 142 connected to the vehicle motor 3 so as to be continuously driven by it, selective valve means for directing fluid under pressure from the pump means to one or more motor-by-pass lines leading back to said pump means, or to either of the hydraulic motors, and brake means 23 associated with the winch, the brake means being held out of action by pressure in the hydraulic circuit means but being adapted automatically to brake the winch upon failure of said pressure. The hydraulic motor 10 moves the boom 5 by driving a winch which also has brake means 23 and which is connected to a cable 17 attached to the boom. A counterbalance weight 20 is supported on pivoted arms 21 operated by hydraulic rams 22, but these members 20 ... 22 may be replaced by counterbalance means described in Specification 1,207,492. The pump 4, Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), comprises pistons inside a housing and operated by a plate on the drive shaft of the vehicle motor, the arrangement being such that the housing is selectively movable to either side of an idling position, in which it is coaxially aligned with the drive shaft, to cause variable reciprocation of the pistons by the plate and so deliver fluid to either of pipe lines 24, 25 depending upon which direction of rotation of the motors 9, 10 is desired. The movement of the pump housing is effected by an hydraulic servomotor 54 supplied with fluid from a valve 26 and operated by movement of a lever 37 under the control of a manually operated lever 35. The pump 142 which is a gear pump pressurizes a control circuit 45 from which fluid is supplied to the valve 26 and to the lines 24, 25, through non-return valves 66, for fluid make-up of the pressure circuit from the pump 4, and by way of a valve 46<SP>1</SP> to valves controlling the motors 9, 10, the valve 46<SP>1</SP> being opened when a minimum pressure is reached. The valve 26 is a pressure relief valve for the pressure circuit and operates when a given pressure is reached; it may be manually operated. Selection of which motor 9 or 10 is to be operated is made by operating a valve 29 by moving a lever 27. In one position of the valve 29 control pressure is supplied to valves 31a, 31b, Fig. 10 (not shown), which are moved against spring loading to a position in which pressure fluid is supplied to a valve 42 controlling the motor 9, and in a second position of the valve 29 control pressure is not supplied to the valves 31a, 31b so that the pressure fluid is supplied to a valve 43 controlling the motor 10. The lever 35 is also used to operate valves 39, 41 which respectively control fluid from the control circuit to operate the valves 42, 43 whereby the speed of the motors 9, 10 is controlled. Each motor 9, 10, Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), comprises a plurality of radially operating pistons actuating a cammed outer casing so as to rotate it, the pistons being driven separately for high speed or in pairs for reduced speed as determined by the setting of the associated control valve 42 or 43. A valve 36 also operated by the lever 35 further controls the pressure in the control circuit. The brake means 23 are connected by way of non-return valves 46 to the control circuit whereby pressure in the circuit releases the brakes. The rams 22 are controlled by a manually operated lever 47 operating a valve 48. In a second embodiment, Fig. 16 (not shown), two pumps are driven by the vehicle motor and respectively supply fluid to drive winches for hoisting and luffing. The winches may be as described in Specification 1,196,041. The control circuit is common to the two pressure circuits and fluid from it is used to operate counterbalance means.
