Abstract

120,842. Sykes Interlocking Signal Co., W. R., and Tarrant, R. W. March 23, 1918. Brushes; brush-holders.-In brush-holders of the type in which two brushes are pressed against diametrically opposite points of the commutator by levers drawn together by a spring, the levers are insulated from the brushes, which slide in guides connected to the terminals. The brushes 12, which are built up of alternate layers of wire-gauze and graphite are of rectangular cross-section and slide in corresponding guides 13, which are carried by, but insulated from, brackets 26 attached to the casing of the machine. The guides are connected by screws 27 to plates 28 carrying terminals 29. The brushes may be connected directly to the terminals 29 by light conductors. The brushes are pressed against the commutator 11 by levers 19 insulated from the brushes by rollers 20 and drawn together by a spring 21.
